XXX Solar Powered Chemical Injection Pump Ø The xxx-xxx Solar Powered Chemical Injection Pump is powered by a 12VDC motor, but requires no external power source. Through use of solar energy, an AGM high-rate sealed lead acid battery is continuously recharged, allowing the battery to provide around-the-clock energy to the chemical injector pump. Ø The system has been designed to reliably operate at maximum volume on as little as 3.6 ‘Sun-hours per day’* and can operate up to 5 days on battery power alone.** Ø The XXX-xxx uses XXX’s reliable injector heads, standard with 3/8" diameter stainless steel plunger. Ø Available in either single or double head configurations with steel (standard) or 316 stainless steel heads for corrosion protection. Ø The pumping volume, controlled by XXX’s custom timer, can range from 1 to 5 gallons per day with a single head and up to 10 gallons per day with dual heads. The pumping volume is dispersed evenly over a 24 hour period. The 3/8" plunger allows for pumping pressures up to 1200 psi (lbf per square inch). PLUNGER MAXIMUM DISCHARGE PRESSURE MAXIMUM PUMPING VOLUME SINGLE HEAD DOUBLE HEAD 3/8" 1200 PSI 5 GPD 10GPD ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS The electrical panel contains two female quick-connectors (XXX-1294). One will be joined to the solar panel wires and comes directly out of the SunSaver Solar Controller “Solar” terminals, marked “4” and “3”. The other one will be joined to the motor wires and has an inline fuse placed in its positive wire. The electrical panel also contains three ring terminals that will connect to the positive (+) terminal of the battery and two ring terminals that will connect to the negative (-) terminal of the battery. ELECTRICAL CONTROL PANEL OPERATION PUMPING VOLUME Pumping Volume is controlled by XXX’s XXX‑1240 Timer and Switch Bank. The timer is pre-programmed for a range of pumping volumes from 1 gallon per day (GPD) up to 10 gallons per day. Two undefined program slots are available, should you require a daily pumping volume not pre-programmed into the unit. (This will need to be done by XXX Engine Company prior to shipping of the unit.) Pumping volumes are selected by using the bank of four switches and setting them in a combination of ‘UP’ (1) and ‘DOWN’ (0) positions. The table shows pumping volumes for either single head pump or dual head pump configurations, along with the appropriate combination of switch selections. The timer operates on a preset ON/OFF cycle, programmed to inject the selected volume evenly over a 24 hour period. The ON time is divided evenly every minute to provide the selected GPD of volume. For example, for a double head unit with the switch bank set to 0000 (all switches down), the pumping volume will be 10 gallons injected over a 24 hour period, and the pump will operate ON for 5.62 seconds, then OFF for 54.38 seconds every minute. VOLTAGE The XXX timer also has a built-in function to monitor battery voltage and adjust the pump run time should the voltage begin to decrease (i.e. in the rare case that there is a prolonged period with low amounts of sunlight). This prevents the battery from fully discharging (prolonging battery life), and allows for the battery to have longer recover times in between motor operations. This allows pumping to continue at decreased volumes without complete shut-down. There is, however, a complete shutoff setting should the battery voltage. drop below 9.8 volts. This is to prevent the motor from overheating. Normal operation will resume once the battery voltage recovers to a safe level for motor operation. There are four (4) modes of operation: Full Volume, ¾ Volume, ½ Volume, and Off. The Voltage Transitions Hysteresis Diagram shows the timing and battery voltage operation with the transition points. Hysteresis is provided to prevent oscillation around the transition points while changing from mode to mode. Orientation Your solar panel should be oriented directionally so that it faces True South. These orientation guidelines are intended for installations located in the Northern Hemisphere. If your installation is in the Southern Hemisphere, the directional positioning and season adjustment should be reversed. GENERAL ORIENTATION The general convention, and an efficient orientation, is to set the angle of tilt of your solar panel equal to the degree of latitude from horizontal of your installation during the Spring and Autumn months, adding 15° of angle (from horizontal) in the Winter, and subtracting 15° of angle (from horizontal) in the Summer. OPTIMIZED ORIENTATION An additional 3-5% of solar efficiency can by achieved by using the following orientation method. 1. The Spring and Autumn orientation angle from horizontal is equal to the degree of latitude of your location minus (-) 2.5°. 2. Calculate the Winter orientation angle from horizontal using the formula: Solar Panel Angle = (Latitude * 0.9) + 29° 3. The Summer orientation angle is 52.5° less than the Winter angle. Maintenance GENERAL The Solar Panel should only require minimal maintenance. Adjust the angle of orientation according to the time of year. Keep the panel free of snow and other debris, periodically wiping the surface to keep it clean. This will maximize the energy transferred from the panel to the battery. ADJUSTING AND REPLACING HEAD, PLUNGER, & PACKING Although the pump and motor unit comes completely assembled, periodic adjustment may be necessary. After time, it may be necessary to replace some of the internal components. Additionally, head, plunger, and packing replacement will be necessary, as these components are in contact with harsh chemicals.
